Inside a traditional classroom-based English school, principles of grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and sentence construction are all essentials in an English class but building confidence in students is rarely given attention because the ratio of teacher is outnumbered by the ratio of students,thus there is not enough time and opportunity for actual one-to-one conversations and  timely corrective feedback . An ESL learner may memorize all the rules about spoken English inside the classroom but many fail to apply what they have learned in an actual conversation because of nervousness as a result of lack of confidence. The process of teaching and learning at Speak English embodies the concept of Praxis. We believe that retention of learning is maximized when it is put to action . By constantly engaging in a one-to-one English conversation ,blended with a series of formative and summative feedbacks, we help students have that confidence by making them aware of what they need to improve on and to practice what they are already good at, thereby making them comfortable in using English in an actual conversation.

Eclectic approach

Speak English advocates the use of the Eclectic approach to ESL learning. The Eclectic method is mostly used because every other theory has strengths and limitations of its own.By combining a range of different methods of teaching and learning approaches, learning of this method benefits from teaching. Learning becomes more fun and innovative due to the unique nature of the learning process that takes place in its application , thus it is very effective for any kind of learner irrespective of age , experience , or academic background.

At Speak English, we understand that all learners are unique, so we developed a curriculum that would respond to the needs of every unique learner. We prepared a smorgasbord of highly engaging Instructional materials that are based on the Common European Framework of Reference(CEFR) . We wanted to make sure that each learner gets the full learning experience in the most effective and efficient way possible through the use of suitable learning materials based according to each learners English proficiency level, with emphasis on a learners learning goal. We have a team of passionate and dedicated ESL counselors who are willing to listen because we care about what really matters to students- The opportunities that comes with learning the English language.

TPR

​The effectiveness of the Total Physical Response(TPR) has been proven by experts in some countries . Its application in ESL classes has shown significant improvement of students’ achievement in learning English especially vocabulary in language as the learning objective. The application of TPR in ESL classes is very appealing to all students regardless of age bracket because of the role-playing tasks and physical communication aspect. Students are encouraged to move around and become more active, learning is done with some fun factor included. And when one is having fun, a learner is more likely to learn faster and retain lessons longer. At Speak English ,TPR is integrated whenever it is necessary.
